2017 – to present: Kilbride Biotech Ltd.
Technical advisor on the use of microalgae to use carbon dioxide from flue gases to limit its effect on climate change and to produce high-value products.

2015 - to present : Cracknore Kilbride Ltd
Technical advisor on anaerobic digestion (AD) and the use of biogas to grow microalgae for carbon mitigation, and to manufacture high-value products such as pharmaceuticals, nutrachemicals, and polyhydroxyalkanoates (biodegradable plastics).

2012 to 2017: Tamar Energy Ltd
Technical Advisor to this company that has obtained £95 million venture capital funding to build and operate large-scale anaerobic digestion facilities in the UK. David Border Consultancy has provided experience in processing organic wastes by a range of physical and biological processes, in assessing the suitability of specific technologies, valorisation of digestate, and in developing value-added products for agricultural and horticultural markets.

2012 to 2015: Tamar Organics Ltd
Technical advisor to this company that has 6 large-scale windrow and in vessel (IVC) composting facilities.

2011 to 2012: UK Waste and Resources Action programme (WRAP)
Provided advice to this UK Government organisation on the commercial-scale production of horticultural and agricultural composts, made from a wide range of organic wastes, using IVC systems.

2011 to 2012: Helius Energy
A market assessment for the sustainable use of fly & bottom ash residues from a large biomass power station.

2011 to 2012: International Composting Corporation (ICC)
Development of a re-circulated air supply and temperature control system for a rotating drum composting facility.

2007 to 2009: NTDP New Technologies Demonstrator Programme (Defra)
A £1.3 million project funded by Defra (UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) to demonstrate the efficiency of the batch tunnel composting technology, to optimise the composting process, and to determine the effect of the composting process upon the local environment. 2009 -2010: UK Home Office (2)
The design, construction and operation of a bench-top in-vessel composting unit for the treatment of human pathogen contaminated crops

2008 : UK Home Office (1)
The development of processes for the treatment of human pathogen-contaminated crops, including in-vessel composting, lime stabilisation, ohmic heating and microwaves

2003 - 2005: Bouldin & Lawson Inc.
DBCC provided composting experience and advice on the microbiology of the composting process in order to enable the effective composting of the sterilised organic product of the steam hydrolysis process.

2002 to 2011: Head of Composting - ADAS UK (Envar) Ltd
Responsible for technical support for composting and anaerobic digestion. Specific responsibilities included the selection of AD technologies, bid support, and in-vessel composting. Projects included:

2002 - 2011: Composting Research Ltd
A long-term project (£3.4 million funding from Landfill Tax Credits) run by Composting Research Ltd., and carried out with ADAS UK

2002 - 2004: Defra (UK Department for Environment Food and Rural Communities)
Contained Composting in the Waste Industry project. A one-year project (£162,000 funding from Landfill Tax Credits) to determine the technical and cost efficiency of using a batch tunnel composting system to process the main UK organic wastes.

2002 - 2005: SWICEB
DBCC provided technical support on the composting process and the control of bioaerosols for a number of projects

2001: Viridor
DBCC advised on the specification, design and operation of a batch IVC system for the composting of local authority green and food waste.

2001: Thames Water International
DBCC carried out technology reviews of, and site visits to, a number of batch and continuous IVC systems in the USA that could be used by Thames Waste Management in the treatment of waste water sludge.

2000 - 2003: Waste Recycling Group (WRG)
Responsible for the technical support of all of the company’s large-scale composting operations for the processing of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) fines, green waste, commercial organic wastes, and the manufacture of compost products.
